Larger capacity to PLAY a major factor for Merthyr Nightspot
Following almost a year of building work to increase its capacity, Merthyr Tydfil’s most stylish nightspot PLAY looks set to open with all the changes in place early December 2008.
This is an exciting time in PLAY’s history as plans originally conceived as far back as 2003 now become a reality. The original concept was to be a bigger venue; however, building regulations and licensing played a major part in the design of PLAY at that time and now with those obstacles out of the way PLAY is opening its new doors on the High Street to a brand new Bar on the ground floor, a larger night club section on floor two and a much larger overall capacity of between 600-800 over its three floors. A larger toilet area has also been built for both sexes. The main dance floor on the third floor level will remain the same size for now; however, the DJ booth has been given a new position to bring the DJ a little closer to the customers allowing for more of a connection between DJ and clubber. Plans to extend the room and add a permanent roof over the current outside terrace are in place and work should start on that in the New Year.
Owner Naz Mohammed is over the moon at the new look of PLAY. He told us, ‘We cannot wait to open, we have spent a great deal of time and money making sure the new look PLAY will stun. The new bar that now opens onto the High Street will be amazing and offers a new a stylish look to Merthyr’s town centre. It will be a great place to meet friends, enjoy cool drinks and will act as a pre club bar prior to events such as Hed Kandi and other great parties on our upper floors’.
